Carmel
Heaney is Project Manager for ‘respect.’
She is a native of Northern Ireland
and brings to ‘respect’
over 25 years of conflict resolution
work. Carmel began life as a teacher
and developed residential community
education programmes for Catholic and
Protestant pupils at the world renowned
Corrymeela Community.
In
1989 she was awarded the Kohl International
Prize for this work. Carmel has been
invited to places as far afield as Bosnia,
Gaza, Tokyo and New York to promote
reconciliation programmes.
She
has 20 years of experience with voluntary
sector groups across England delivering
national projects with a focus on creativity
and socially responsible ideals with
groups as diverse as Comic Relief, Marks
and Spencer, Tesco, McDonald's and BAE
Systems.
In
her spare time Carmel is an avid reader,
enjoys a wide range of musical styles
from opera to Irish folk, caters for
200 people at weekends, and is a board
member of ‘Young at Art’
an International Children's Festival
based in Belfast.
