Fiona
Mactaggart became MP for Slough in May
1997. She is Parliamentary Under Secretary
for Race Equality, Community Policy,
and Civil Renewal, Home Office. In this
capacity, she has responsibility for
both faith issues and community cohesion
issues.
Ms
Mactaggart was an inner-London primary
school teacher from 1987 to 1992, and
from 1992 to 1997 she was a lecturer
in primary education at the London Institute
of Education. She was General Secretary
of the Joint Council for the Welfare
of Immigrants from 1982 to 1986, and
press and public relations officer for
the National Council for Voluntary Organisations
in 1981. She was a Liberty executive
member from 1992 to 1996 and its chair
from1994 to 1996.
Fiona
Mactaggart has a BA in English from
Kings College, London, a postgraduate
teaching certificate from Goldsmiths
College and an MA in Education.
