Nick Carter

Nick Carter is the Editor in Chief and a Director of the Leicester Mercury Group. The Leicester Mercury was named UK Regional Newspaper of the Year in 2001 and is currently short listed again for this year's title. He is a member of the Home Office Community Cohesion Media Practitioner Group.

Nick has been a Member of the Leicester City Centre Forum from September 1995. Other roles include being a patron for Coping with Cancer 2000; Chair of the Mercury Action Trust; a member of the Steering Group for Leicester Revealed; a member of the Social and Community Regeneration Sub-Group of the Leicester Regeneration Company; and a board member for the Prince's Trust in Leicestershire.

Nick Carter has a joint honours degree in history and politics from the University of Warwick. He lives in the centre of Leicester and is closely involved in issues surrounding the development of the city and county, particularly issues around the developing diversity of Leicester. In 2001 he started what is now the city's Multicultural Advisory Group, comprised of senior figures from all communities who meet to consider and advise on diversity issues.

Nick Carter's previous work includes serving as Editor of the South Wales Evening Post, based in Swansea, South Wales and working on evening newspapers in Cardiff, Reading and Slough. He was Chairman of the Parliamentary and Legal Committee of the Society of Editors from 1997 to 1999.
